Sew a Mermaid Costume for Your Kid: Tips and Tricks

Mermaids are a popular theme for children’s costumes this year. With Halloween just around the corner, it is time to start planning your child’s costume! The first thing you need to do is make sure that you have all of the necessary supplies and tools before starting your project. You can find them all listed below:

Mermaid Tails For Kids

-Fabric, at least five yards. Make sure that you choose a fabric with stretch in order to keep it comfortable and flexible for movement. I recommend using cotton lycra or knit jersey (or any other similarly light weight fabrics) because they are available in many different colors.

-Pins

-Measuring tape

-Thread and sewing machine on heavy duty needle

-Scissors of some kind (preferably dressmaker’s shears)

-Six large safety pins or binder clips/clamps to hold pieces together while stitching them up, to make things easier. If these aren’t available, two people can work as clamps by holding the edges of the fabric together so seams don’t tear apart .

-Sewing needle (sharp)
